A 5 Step Guide to Develop Your Core Messaging Pillars

In the quest to create landing pages that don't just attract but convert, understanding your audience's needs and how your product meets those needs is paramount.

The journey from identifying a problem to articulating the transformative benefits of solving it is both an art and a science.

Here’s a practical guide to turning your product's features into compelling reasons why someone should choose your solution over all others.

A Five-Step Guide to Crafting Landing Page Copy That Connects

I'll use an all natural focus-enhancing supplement to demonstrate.

Step 1: Define the Problem.

Every great solution starts with a problem. Identify the core issues your target audience faces that your product or service can solve.

Example: Burnt out, over-caffeinated, and unmotivated.
People are reaching for coffee and other caffeinated drinks to push through their day, only to find themselves in a vicious cycle of energy crashes and reduced productivity.

Step 2: Articulate the Desired Outcome

What change does your audience seek? Define the direct impact your product promises.

Example: Focused, motivated, and thinking clearly.
Users seek a sustainable and healthy way to maintain high energy levels, mental clarity, and motivation throughout their workday without the negative side effects associated with excessive caffeine consumption.

Step 3: Highlight the Benefit

Dive deeper and describe the positive change that occurs as a result of achieving the desired outcome. What can they do now, they couldn't before?

Example: Rediscovered passion for work and life - increased productivity, crushing life.
This Product offers a solution that reignites one’s drive and zest for professional and personal endeavors, enabling users to achieve more with a clear and focused mind.

Step 4: Amplify with the Benefit of the Benefit

Go one step further and explore the broader impact on the user's life or business. Now that they can do the thing they couldn't before, how has this positively changed their circumstances, and get them closer to their higher-order life aspirations and goals?

Example: Empowered to achieve career milestones and entrepreneurial dreams.Transitioning into a state of balance and focus doesn't just enhance day-to-day well-being; it becomes the catalyst for significant life achievements/transformations, such as securing a coveted promotion or finally launching the dream business. This newfound drive and mental clarity equip users to seize opportunities, overcome challenges, and achieve their most ambitious goals.

Step 5. Mine your Product Advantages

Mine your competitors negative reviews to find at least 5 common product experience complaints that you know your product addresses/produces a more desirable experience.

By doing so, you're creating an intuitive bridge to your product from the old way, that's familiar to your users. It's just like a Jerry Seinfeld's material - he highlights common life annoyances we all experience, but never really think about. But, when you hear it, you laugh and say something like "Right? I totally do that too! - he get's me. Tell me more!"

  1. Natural and Sustained Energy: Unlike the temporary buzz and inevitable crash of coffee, Our Product utilizes a blend of adaptogens, nootropics, and matcha to provide a steady flow of energy without jitters or crashes.
  2. Comprehensive Mental Support: Beyond just focus, our product addresses the full spectrum of mental performance including memory, creativity, and mood stabilization, thanks to its scientifically formulated ingredients.

It’s designed for daily consumption with a focus on building resilience to stress and improving neural function over time.

Practical Exercise: Mapping Your Product's Impact

To truly leverage this approach, engage in a detailed exercise to map out these elements for your product. Here’s how:

  1. Identify Top Problems: Describe the top 3-5 problems your product aims to solve.
  2. List Common Barriers: For the core problem, detail 1-3 common barriers to resolution, including ineffective solutions tried previously.
  3. Outline Your Solution: Describe how your product overcomes these barriers, focusing on the unique advantages it offers.
  4. Drill Down into Sub-Problems: For each core problem, list three related issues experienced by your target audience.
  5. Desired Outcomes: List the opposing desired outcome for each problem or pain point.
  6. Benefits: For each desired outcome, articulate 1-3 benefits.
  7. Benefits of the Benefit: Finally, for each benefit, highlight 1-3 transformative impacts on the user’s life or business.
  8. Product Advantages: When you have this mined from reviewing your competitor reviews, start at step one, using the complaint as your pain point.
